Ukraine International Airlines plane crash

January 9, 2020

Dear students and colleagues:

Details continue to emerge about the crash of Ukraine International Airlines flight PS752 in Tehran, Iran. I am saddened to report that a McGill student died in the tragedy. The information available so far indicates that two McGill alumni were also killed in the crash. Out of respect for the privacy of the families, McGill will not be releasing any further details about the deceased at this time.

On behalf of McGill University, I offer our deepest condolences to the families and friends impacted by these heartbreaking losses, to the Iranian-Canadian community, and to our sister universities who also lost members of their communities.

The McGill flag is lowered today on our campuses in memory of the people who lost their lives. Memorial service details will be shared as they are known.

If you need support during this difficult time, please know that help is available. Students are encouraged to reach out to the Office of the Dean of Students, the Student Wellness Hub, the Office of Religious and Spiritual Life and International Student Services. Faculty and staff are encouraged to seek support through McGill’s Employee and Family Assistance Program.
