October 4, 2019
Dear members of the McGill community:
It is my pleasure to announce the reappointment of Professor Christopher Manfredi as Provost and Vice-Principal (Academic) (PVPA) for a second five-year term, beginning July 1, 2020 and ending June 30, 2025. The McGill Board of Governors approved the reappointment at its meeting of October 3, 2019, on my recommendation, pursuant to the advice of the Advisory Committee for the Possible Reappointment of the PVPA.
Prof. Manfredi began his first mandate as PVPA on July 1, 2015. As the university’s chief academic officer and chief budget officer, he works to support the university’s mission by advancing institutional priorities through academic leadership and administrative management.
As part of its process, the Advisory Committee received input from the University community and reviewed Prof. Manfredi’s performance to date across a wide range of institutional responsibilities falling within the PVPA’s portfolio. The Committee also met with the PVPA to discuss achievements and challenges, as well as future opportunities and goals. The review process, which indicated Prof. Manfredi’s strong performance across a range of important organizational leadership issues, provided an opportunity to inform the development of priorities and objectives for the second term. These will be based on the commitment to exercising academic leadership in continuing to advance the vision and mission of the University, and stewarding resources to ensure that University activities and services effectively support McGill as it heads into its third century.
Please join me in congratulating Prof. Manfredi on his reappointment. I also wish to thank the members of the Advisory Committee and everyone in the community who shared their thoughts and advice during the reappointment process.
Principal and Vice-chancellor
