Priorities

McGill Arts Building Cupola

What are McGill’s strengths and values—and in what direction do we, together, want the University to go? Learn more about the five priorities, and corresponding action plans.

The McGill Commitment

This priority area focuses on providing all students with a stimulating, innovative, and inquiry-based educational experience. For undergraduate students, the McGill Commitment will ensure meaningful exposure to research, whether in the laboratory or in the field, and providing experiential and scholarly learning opportunities that extend beyond the classroom and the gates of the University. For graduate students, the McGill Commitment will ensure excellence in supervision, and provide opportunities for developing career-enhancing professional skills.

Unleashing our Full Research Potential

Today’s research landscape is global, interdisciplinary, focused on excellence, and rooted in collaboration with partners of all types (including industry, non-profits, governments, and other universities). This priority area focuses on laying the foundation for McGill to excel in this increasingly competitive and challenging environment.

Enhancing McGill's Community Partnerships

This priority area focuses on establishing McGill as a leading University partner for many members of our community (including alumni, students, parents and friends; industry, non-for-profit and public organizations; traditional, social and specialized media; and the community at large), and a successful collaborator with these groups in achieving our collective goals.

My Healthy Workplace

This priority area focuses on turning McGill into a true learning organization. “My Healthy Workplace” aims to facilitate a shift in McGill’s administrative workplace culture: to embrace continuous learning and change, to inspire and encourage new ways of doing things, and to empower administrative staff to use their knowledge and expertise to make McGill a more agile and effective organization.

Transforming our Campus

This priority area focuses on providing McGill with the physical resources necessary for fulfilling its mission and maintaining its stature as one of the world’s leading teaching and research universities. It is of particular importance that we plan for the long-term, with an eye toward changing needs. Areas of focus include: campus expansion, respecting our heritage footprint, sustainability, accessibility and maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for students, staff, faculty and researchers.
