Welcome to the 2016-2017 academic year

Dear members of the McGill community:

I love the energy on campus this time of year. Everyone is revitalized and charged with enthusiasm. It is wonderful to reconnect with the community and to hear about summer adventures, whether exploring far-off cities or the natural wonders in our own backyard.

We have an exciting year ahead. In 2017, Montreal will mark its 375th year and Canada will turn 150. McGill is proud of the communities in which we live, and we want to hear your ideas for how we can celebrate these milestone anniversaries.

This is also a year that is about looking forward, and building our future. There is much construction activity in and around our campuses, and I thank you for your patience during this necessary and important work. We are also in a period of planning.  This time last year, I wrote to you about the launch of the Principal’s Task Force on the Academic Vision and Mission of the RVH Site. Based on the Task Force’s recommendations, informed by extensive community consultations throughout the year, two working groups are now developing a full academic plan for the RVH.  I will keep you posted as this vision for McGill’s future takes shape.

I look forward to another great year of learning and discovery together. I welcome the opportunity to hear about your projects. If we are not able to meet in person (you can see my itinerary here), you can always send your thoughts and ideas to me at suzanne.fortier [at] mcgill.ca.

Happy new academic year!

Sincerely,

Suzanne Fortier

Principal and Vice-Chancellor
