Dear members of the Spring 2021 graduating class and the McGill community,
I am writing to share an update on the format of the Spring 2021 convocation.
While we continue to see encouraging progress, including the approval of new vaccines and their accelerated administration worldwide, we are also reminded of the fragility of our situation and of the vital importance of following public health directives.
With the evolving context in mind, as well as the importance of prioritizing the health and safety of our community, we have decided to hold the Spring 2021 convocation ceremonies virtually. More details will be shared as planning gets underway.
Whether during normal circumstances or the most trying times, convocation at McGill remains a joyous occasion for all. During our virtual convocation last November, our graduates shared in the celebration of a great milestone and the excitement of imagining life’s possibilities.
I know many are wondering whether we will be able to hold in-person events to honour the graduates of 2020 and 2021. While we all long for a return to in-person celebrations, containing the spread of the virus still requires time and effort. We are continuing to assess our options and the appropriate timing for holding such events, and will share updates when available.
Thank you again for your patience, your understanding, and your remarkable resilience as we continue to adapt to our evolving circumstances.
I look forward to celebrating the Class of 2021 soon!
