McGill launches its most ambitious fundraising campaign

September 26, 2019

Dear members of the McGill community,

Today is an exciting day as we are launching the most ambitious fundraising drive in McGill’s history. With a goal of $2 billion, it is as bold as our thinkers, and designed to propel McGill into its third century by increasing resources for financial aid and scholarships to support our students through their learning journey, as well as offering opportunities that open doors, advancing research that changes lives, driving innovation, and ensuring our students are future-ready.

The engagement and commitment of all members of our community—our students, faculty, staff, alumni, friends—is key to achieving the goals of this momentous campaign. By leveraging and celebrating our lifelong relationship with McGill, we can all make a difference for the present and future success of our University.

Every person who has walked through the Roddick Gates has been touched by their experiences here. My own time here as a student opened up a world of opportunities, many of which I had never even dreamed possible. One of the great joys of being Principal of this University is that, every day, I have the privilege of hearing students, alumni, faculty and staff, share how McGill has shaped their lives. They help shape McGill, too—just like you do. Your hard work, ideas, and contributions are what makes our community special.

The fundraising drive also marks the debut of “Made by McGill,” our new creative platform for telling the incredible stories of our bright students, accomplished alumni, and outstanding faculty and administrative and support staff. In addition to supporting the campaign, the Made by McGill platform will be used to bolster key initiatives like undergraduate recruitment, as well as our upcoming Bicentennial celebrations.

I would like to give you a preview of our Made by McGill video. It features students, professors and staff from around our University, and the soundtrack was performed by students from the Schulich School of Music. I hope that in watching the video you will share my sense of pride in our University.

You can read more about our fundraising goals and inspiring stories demonstrating how the campaign will change teaching, learning and research, on the Made by McGill: the Campaign for Our Third Century website. I also invite you to visit the installation on the lower field of the downtown campus, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today, and from 2 to 3 p.m. tomorrow. Come hear faculty and students talk about their fascinating work, and mingle with other members of our exceptional community.

Sincerely,

Suzanne Fortier

Principal and Vice-Chancellor, McGill University
