Appointment of Vice-Principal (Communications and External Relations)

Dear members of the McGill community:

During a special meeting held this morning, McGill University’s Board of Governors approved the appointment of Mr. Louis Arseneault as Vice-Principal (Communications and External Relations). Please join me in welcoming Mr. Arseneault to our University. His renewable term begins February 1, 2017, and ends June 30, 2022.

Louis Arseneault comes to McGill with more than 20 years’ experience in strategic and marketing communications, public affairs, government and media relations, and issues management. He worked at Montréal International from 2005 to 2016, first serving as Communications Director, then as Vice-President, Talent Attraction, Promotion and Communications. Highlights of Mr. Arseneault’s achievements include the development of a new business unit dedicated to attracting international talent to Greater Montreal, and the creation of Contact MTL, a partnership between 20 public and private organizations – including McGill and our peer universities – to promote Greater Montreal as one of the world’s leading cities for post-secondary education, research and innovation. Prior to joining Montréal International, he held senior communications roles at Bell Canada and CAA-Québec.

Mr. Arseneault earned a Master’s degree in Sociology (Information and Communications) from Université Paris VII, and a Bachelor’s degree in Communications from Université du Québec à Montréal. He is a member of the Canadian Public Relations Society and the Société québécoise des professionnels en relations publiques, and sits on several boards of directors, including the United Nations Association in Canada of Greater Montreal and Opéra de Montréal.

I would like to thank the members of the Advisory Committee for the Selection of a Vice-Principal (Communications and External Relations) for their diligence and thoughtfulness during the extensive search and evaluation process. Thanks are also due to Mr. Marc Weinstein, Vice-Principal (University Advancement), for his leadership as interim Vice-Principal (Communications and External Relations).

Sincerely,

Suzanne Fortier

Principal and Vice-Chancellor
