Online Seminar - Circadian clocks: implications for vaccination and shift workers

Friday, May 15, 2020 11:00to12:00
McIntyre Medical Building via Zoom, 3655 promenade Sir William Osler, Montreal, QC, H3G 1Y6, CA

Most aspects of physiology vary according to the time of day. These 24 h rhythms are generated by endogenous circadian clocks present in most organs and cell types. Disruption of circadian rhythms, as occurs for example in shift workers, can lead to a variety of serious health issues, including cancer, metabolic and cardiovascular problems and psychiatric disorders. Among other physiological systems, immune functions vary as a function of the time of day. We will show that the clock in mouse T cells is involved in the circadian control of the response of these cells to antigen presentation, making T cells more or less responsive to vaccination according to the time of day. We will also demonstrate the deleterious effects of night shift on circadian gene expression and metabolic rhythms in humans.

This seminar will be given online via Zoom.
