Principles of justice, equity, and sustainability are centre in JESA’s research and action-oriented global projects. 

Faculty & Research

Associates focus on critical and decolonial global development practices, gender justice, global health, immigration and belonging, forced migration and population displacement, child and youth rights, Indigenous rights, climate justice, food security, and development policy and planning. Approaches used are arts-based, participatory and action-oriented, trauma-informed, decolonial, story-telling focused, transnational, feminist, and intersectional. 

JESA collaborates with partners around the world and engages students. 

Centre for Justice, Equity & Sustainable Action (JESA) On-going projects with NGOs in the global South focus on gender transformative change, disability, and inclusive education in Sierra Leone; sex-trafficking in Nepal; gender and youth agency in Mali and Senegal; gender norms amongst students and families in Rwanda, Ghana, and Mozambique; and gender and responses to climate change in Bangladesh. Additional projects focus on responses to food insecurity in the Fraser Valley, BC; human trafficking, commodification of sexual services, and labour exploitation; and sustainable fashion in the Lower Mainland, BC. 

Public engagement & advocacy

Public engagement and advocacy events are organized to share findings and mark global days such as Canada’s International Development Week, International Women’s Day, and World Children’s Day.
