Marc Hamel began his clinical and research work in the 1990’s during the early years of the HIV/AIDS crisis in Canada. He was involved in the first National survey on the mental health needs of persons living with HIV/AIDS and their caregivers. Marc’s interest in oncology originated when he joined the McGill University’s Health Center’s (MUHC) Palliative Care team in 2001. As a clinician, he provided psychological services to oncology patients and their family. In addition to his clinical work, he is actively involved in psychosocial research including distress screening and family meetings in Palliative Care.
