Bernard Lapointe’s research focuses primarily on the reduction and control of pain for patients living with a terminal illness. He has led or collaborated in a wide range of studies on pain management including the effects of new and experimental medications in the treatment of cancer pain, and the development of a classification system of cancer pain. Some of his research projects in the study of medication for the treatment of cancer pain have involved the use of Tetrodotoxin (Tectin™) and Sativex®. Bernard has also studied the effects of the use of Methylnaltrexone in the treatment of constipation in adults with advanced illnesses.
