Message from the Chair

Lucy Gilbert

As we start the new year, I am honoured to begin my tenure as Chair of the Gerald Bronfman Department of Oncology. Since the department’s creation in 1990, successive Chairs have contributed to building a thriving department, spread across McGill and its affiliated teaching hospitals, whose members -many of whom are recognized nationally and internationally- represent a broad range of cancer-related disciplines in research and clinical care. The department has a strong commitment to education, with residency training programs in medical, radiation and surgical oncology, as well as a graduate diploma in oncology program.

With cancer being the leading cause of death in Canada, department members have an important role to play in addressing this threat -whether through teaching, research, administration or providing health care. As we enter a new era for the department, I am looking forward to working with colleagues, including the broader McGill community, to continue to build the department, nurture the career path of faculty, and overcome the challenges we face, to take the department to new heights.
