ObGyn Clerkship Evaluation

Site mentor evaluations

At each site all students will be assigned to a faculty member who will function as the student's mentor for the clerkship. The mentors have a responsibility to ensure this learning experience is optimized and runs smoothly; they are there to help and guide clerks through this rotation.

After the first four weeks of the rotation, site mentors meet with each clerk to give mid-rotation feedback. Site Coordinators arrange these evaluations in a timely fashion.

At the end of the 8-week rotation site mentors will meet again to review the clerks final clinical evaluation. The individuals who contribute to the clerk's clinical evaluations include attending staff, residents and nurses. The final clinical evaluation will include an assessment of how well the objectives of clerkship have been completed.

Grading

It is important that clerks are punctual, ask questions when in doubt, and come prepared to their assigned areas. Written and oral presentations should be concise and informative. The final grade is based on the following:

  • 45%: Clinical evaluation (input from Attending Faculty, residents and nursing staff)
  • 30%: Written exam - National Board Medical Exam (NBME)
  • 25%: Objective Structured Clinical Exam (OSCE)

At the end of their rotations, evaluations by clerks and suggestions for improving the clerkship will be greatly appreciated.
