Letter Requests

There are different types of letters that a trainee can request from the Teaching Office. Please take careful note that it will take 5-10 business days to prepare your letter. For security reasons, please also note that your request must be sent to our office using your McGill University e-mail account or Home Institution e-mail account. 

1. Recommendation Letter 

Trainees in good standing are able to request a recommendation letter from their Program Director. This request should be made via email to your Program Coordinator with a CC to your Program Director. These requests should be sent no later than the end of September for the November CaRMS deadline of that academic year. Any request received after the end of September may be refused. 

The Teaching Office cannot facilitate the creation of recommendation letters from staff other than the Program Director. 

2. Recommendation Letter for CaRMS

Students in good standing are able to request a recommendation letter from a supervising staff at the MUHC-RVH. This request should be made via email to the supervising staff with a CC to the UGME Program Coordinator

3. Letter of Standing

Once registered, trainees who are in good standing are able to generate a Letter of Standing for the academic year through the Resident Portal. This letter states the following: DOB, registration dates, program & level, expected end date and full-time trainee status. If the system does not allow you to generate a letter of standing for specific reasons (e.g., training is off-phase, resident is on leave, etc.) please contact the Program Coordinator responsible for your program via email. In your email request please include any relevant information you would like included in your letter. 

4. Letter of Standing for Electives

If you require a simple Letter of Standing then it can be generated from the Resident PortalIf you require a more detailed Letter of Standing for your elective please contact the Program Coordinator responsible for your program. In your email request please include any relevant information you would like included in your letter. 

5. Other Letters

If you require other letters from the teaching office, please provide us with the following information in your request:

  1. Who to address the letter to
  2. What you need specified in the letter

In your email request to your Program Coordinator please include any relevant information you would like included in your letter.

6. Verification of Training 

For current trainees who require a Letter of Standing for an application to other programs, you must apply for it through the PGME's Verification of Training Page

All Verification of Training requests from graduated trainees must be done by applying through the PGME's Verification of Training Page

Please take careful note that no Verification of Training forms will be completed by the Obstetrics and Gynecology Teaching office.
