Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Program

The aim of the Pediatric Concentration is to prepare the pediatric nurse practitioner for the multifaceted role of nurse practitioner in ambulatory, intermediate, acute and critical care settings. The pediatric nurse practitioner is prepared to provide, and/or collaborate in the provision of services, designed to deal with the health care needs of children 0 to 18 years that have acute, complex issues requiring secondary and tertiary care. The focus is the development of expert clinical competence and leadership. The ability to function as an educator, consultant, collaborator, and leader are integral parts of the Nurse Practitioner role. These competencies are developed throughout the curriculum. In Québec, the pediatric NP title is Infirmière praticienne spécialisée en soins pédiatriques (IPSSP).

For additional information on the Pediatric NP scope of practice, visit the Specialized Nurse Practitioners and Their Practice: Guidelines available on the Ordre des Infirmières et Infirmiers du Québec (OIIQ) website: https://www.oiiq.org/documents/20147/2943833/2530-np-guidelines-web.pdf (available in French and English).
