The Nursing Collaborative

The McGill Nursing Collaborative for Education and Innovation in Patient- and Family-Centered Care was inaugurated on September 10, 2012. It is supported by an initial gift of $6 million over 5 years to the founding partners - the Ingram School of Nursing and the Nursing Departments of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) and the Jewish General Hospital (JGH) - by the Newton Foundation and the partner institutions’ donors. Its goal is to increase the national and international impact of McGill’s Nursing’s programs of research and education and also McGill’s model of clinical practice.  Joint activities between the original partners will be a major focus, but new partners are expected to join the Collaborative. Outreach to other members of the McGill academic health network, and to institutions elsewhere in the city of Montreal and the province of Quebec, as well as nationally and beyond, will also be fostered.Celebrating the dawn of a new era at the Ingram School of Nursing.

Integral to the McGill Nursing Collaborative is the Susan E. French Chair in Nursing Research and Innovative Practice. It was endowed by the Newton Foundation to provide the leadership essential to achieve the goals of the Collaborative.  Professor Sean Clarke was named the first holder of the French Chair and is the first Director of the Collaborative.

A consultation process is currently underway to determine priorities for the first years of the Collaborative.  An advisory body composed of the Director of the Ingram School of Nursing, nurse executives and directors of nursing research from the JGH and MUHC and a representative from the Newton Foundation will work with Professor Clarke to guide its growth.
