First Peoples’ House hosts celebration of aboriginal culture

McGill University and its First Peoples’ House proudly present the Sixth Annual Pow-wow, a celebration of the art and culture of indigenous peoples on Friday, Sept. 21.

McGill’s lower campus will be the site of traditional dances, drumming, Inuit throat singing and native crafts during the daylong celebration. Education circles showcasing three of McGill's faculties – Social Work, Law and Medicine – will offer information and career advice to prospective high school students from Kahnawake, Kahnesatake and Akwesasne communities. The event will welcome community groups such as the Canadian Aboriginal Science and Technology Society, Qikiqtaaluk Environmental and Projet Autochtone du Québec. Dance demonstrations by Lisa Odjig, World Champion Hoop Dancer, and a concert by Vancouver musician Kinnie Starr will round out the festivities.
