Published: 25 October 2024

October 25, 2024 | Vincent Rigby along with professor Thomas Juneau wrote an article on the recommend strategies for Canada to ease the relationship with India in the National Post.  The Public Inquiry into Foreign Interference (PIFI) is in its final phase, with a report due in December 2024 that will recommend strategies to counter future threats to Canada's democracy. Witnesses have highlighted the strain on Canada's national security resources amidst rising global threats, emphasizing the need for better coordination, clearer priorities, and increased transparency. While the recent creation of a national security council and strategy review is promising, experts stress that proactive leadership and sustained political commitment are essential for an effective response to foreign interference.

The recent creation of a national security council and the announcement that the government will produce a national security strategy are positive steps, but are not a panacea. Future governments must make national security a priority given the state of the world. They must also bring Canadians with them. This will require greater transparency, but above all, leadership.
