Montreal Gazette - Social media project tops goal

Published: 16 March 2011

A group of McGill MBA students who travelled to India last month announced this week they surpassed their social media fundraising goal to fund women’s education in that country. The students paid about $3,000 each to travel to India on a trip to learn about the economy of the world’s second most populous country. However, the students also wanted to highlight some of the country’s social problems, such as the fact that few impoverished girls have access to a school education.

Their goal was to raise $10,000 for the K.C. Mahindra Foundation’s Nanhi Kali Project. However, a total of $17,900 was raised during the trip, exclusively by raising awareness of the campaign through social media.
