Montreal Gazette - Montreal universities mobilize to help Richelieu flooding victims

Published: 28 May 2011

Montreal universities are mobilizing to help victims of flooding in the Richelieu River valley. Concordia, McGill and Université de Montréal are sending volunteers from their emergency services departments to respond to an urgent call for help with a cleanup planned for June 11-12…

Bruce Lapointe, McGill's emergency measures officer, said the universities have had a good response and should be sending a busload of volunteers. "Our neighbours are in a fairly bad position, so we figured we should offer our services," he said. "We just feel bad and want to help." He called it a heartfelt, grassroots effort. "We have expertise in incident management, we have equipment, so we offered our services."
