Montreal Gazette - McGill Med School calling for "non-traditional" applicants

It's a new world and the faculty of Medicine at McGill University wants to reflect that. The prestigious faculty is making a concerted effort to open its doors to students who might be considered "non-traditional" in that their background is not in science, or they interrupted their education to work for a few years.

The department is hoping that these students will bring something unique to the world of medicine and help improve the quality of health care here.

"These are people who will bring really interesting life experiences to medicine," said Dr. Saleem Razack, assistant dean of admissions for medicine at McGill. "We want to make sure we have a class that is a bit more representative of society. The aim of the nontraditional pathway is to bring people into the class with diverse life experiences."
