McGill groups unite to denounce cuts to universities

Published: 22 February 2013

Staff and students at McGill University are calling on the Parti Québecois government not to slash $248 million from universities' funding over the next two fiscal years. "We call on the government of Quebec to reverse these dangerous cuts and we appeal to Quebec society as a whole to join together to protect and sustain the universities as a key resource for the future health and prosperity of our society," reads the statement initiated by the McGill Association of University Teachers. Faculty, administrative and support staff as well as students call the cuts sudden, severe and dangerous and a "threat to the health of our university system and the future well-being of Quebec society." The statement was also signed by principal and vice-chancellor Heather Munroe-Blum.
