The Gazette: McGill goes green on McTavish

Published: 28 May 2010

It's official. On Friday, McGill and the City of Montreal are converting McTavish St. between Sherbrooke and Dr. Penfield Ave. into a pedestrian thoroughfare. Not that it's been much use to cars for a long time, Montreal jaywalkers in general and students in particular being what they are. But McGill principal Heather Munroe-Blum and Mayor Gerald Tremblay are finally ready to make it happen, the latest, they say, in a series of steps aimed at making the campus and the downtown core a greener, cleaner place. Now if only the folks in and around Mackay Street on the Concordia campus could finally make that green space happen. They've only been working on it for thirty years.
