First public screening of documentary “Miracles in Modern Medicine” since the 1967 International and Universal Exposition

Filmed in 1966 at the Royal Victoria Hospital, the Montreal General Hospital, the Hotel Dieu, and the Montreal Rehabilitation Institute, Miracles in Modern Medicine is a film of six vignettes capturing novel medical interventions that represented, for the era, the remarkable possibilities of modern technological medicine. The film was viewed by over 2 million visitors to the ‘Man and His Health’ pavilion of Expo 67.  This screening is first public viewing in Canada in nearly 50 years.

Director Robert Cordier and Steve Palmer, historian of medicine.

Robert Cordier, Director of « Miracles in Modern Medicine «  is  metteur en scène, cinéaste, acteur, poète, écrivain, dramaturge, scénariste, traducteur et pédagogue américain;founder,Acting International.  Robert Cordier has been at the heart of the avant- garde theatre, film and performance art scene in New York since the 1960s and 70s.

Steven Palmer, Historian of Medicine, Canada Research Chair in the History of International Health, University of Windsor.  Palmer, rediscovered the film at Library and Archives Canada, will offer a commentary on the Montreal medical community's leadership role in establishing the Expo theme pavilions as well as a reconstruction of the "Man and His Health/L'homme et la santé" pavilion, and its “Meditheatre” performance space where the film was screened.
