McGill’s fourth annual Trivia Challenge in support of the University’s Centraide campaign got off to a roaring success Tuesday night, as more than 100 people filled the ballroom of the Faculty Club to match wits with Quizmaster David Harpp. More than $500 was raised for the Centraide campaign and the first round of the multi-round contest was a closely fought affair, with reigning champions, The Ministry of Truth, winning the first round by a narrow margin.
This year, the McGill Quarter Century Club (QCC) welcomes 139 new members to its roster, bringing the total to 2,939 members. A reception will be held tonight in which the new inductees will be joined by other members of the QCC to celebrate this important milestone. The McGill Quarter Century Club recognizes the contribution of faculty and staff who have dedicated 25 years of loyal service to supporting McGill’s mission of fostering excellence in teaching, research and administrative support. On Nov. 3, come share the excitement and celebrate the exceptional young talent of students from McGill’s Schulich School of Music as the McGill Symphony Orchestra performs at the Maison Symphonique for the first time. Maestro Alexis Hauser will lead the McGill Symphony Orchestra in an afternoon of magnificent works that include Verdi’s Hymn, March and Dance from the Act II Finale of Aida; Wagner’s Prelude from Act III of Lohengrin; and Ravel’s Daphnis and Chloé Suite No. 2. The orchestra will also perform the ethereal Laterna Magica (The Magic Lantern) by Finnish composer Kaija Saariaho.

Dr. Stephen Elledge, 2013 Canada Gairdner International Laureate of Harvard Medical School, will deliver his lecture, “Genetic approaches to cancer,” as part of the 2013 Gairdner National Program.
