Abstract: Neurovascular surgery is alive more than ever. Thanks to a growing multidisciplinary effort, open cerebrovascular and neuro-endovascular surgery are increasingly being combined in leading comprehensive stroke centers. The potential for enhanced neurovascular care will be discussed, as well the challenges moving forward. Case illustrations will cover: mechanical thrombectomy for acute ischemic stroke, hybrid neurovascular surgical environment, cerebrovascular care for the aging population, and innovative techniques in the treatment of venous disorders of the brain and aneurysms.

Dr. Zetchi is a Candidate for the position of Assistant/Associate Professor – CAS Clinical (Cerebrovascular)

Photo of Dr. Akli ZetchiDr. Akli Zetchi completed his medical training and his residency in neurosurgery at Laval University, in Quebec, Canada. He subsequently completed 2 years of fellowship training in interventional neuroradiology - one in Toronto at St-Michael’s Hospital/University of Toronto and one in Paris at Hôpital Lariboisière. He completed one year of cerebrovascular neurosurgery fellowship training at the Toronto Western Hospital/ University of Toronto. His goal is to improve care of cerebrovascular patients by promoting an unbiased and comprehensive multidisciplinary approach. His practice focuses on neurovascular surgery and general cranial neurosurgery (mechanical thrombectomy for acute stroke, aneurysms, AVMs, carotid and intracranial occlusive disease, brain tumors and hydrocephalus). Special research interests include surgical education and innovation in endovascular and neurosurgical techniques. He’s married to Sabrina and they have 2 boys: Noham and Elias. His hobbies include travelling, soccer and sailing, although at the moment he’s more into stepping on his kids’ toys!
