Microsoft disabling basic authentication starting October 1

Published: 27Sep2022

Starting on October 1, 2022, Microsoft will disable basic authentication when connecting to Microsoft 365 to replace it with a more modern authentication method. This may affect the access to your McGill email.

**You will not lose your emails but if your application still uses Basic Authentication, you might temporarily be unable to access your email.

To access your McGill mailbox, IT Services greatly recommends using the most recent version of Microsoft Outlook for your computer and the Microsoft Outlook mobile app for mobile devices.

If, however, you prefer to use another application, please follow the instructions in this Knowledge base article: Modify your email configuration to support modern authentication to ensure compatibility with modern authentication.

If you have questions related to this announcement, please contact the IT Service Desk.
