International Grant Competition (Music)

This grant competition is for international graduate students enrolled full-time in a degree program at the Schulich School of Music.

Awards and date to be distributed

The following awards may not be conferred each year, depending on the qualifying proposals received:

Doctoral competition

  • 1 Music Research award of $12,000.
  • 1 Music Performance award of $12,000.

Master's competition

  • 1 Music Research award of $5,000.
  • 1 Music Performance award of $5,000.

Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • Be currently enrolled full-time in a doctoral or master’s level studies in Music Performance or Music Research at the Schulich School of Music;
  • Be an international student;
  • Have not previously received this award;

Application procedure

All documents must be received by the appropriate deadline:

General presentation

Prepare all required attachments according to the following specifications:

  • Typed or word processed, single-sided, on 8 ½" x 11" (21.5 cm x 28 cm), white paper
  • Single-spaced, with no more than six lines of type per inch (2.54 cm)
  • Body text in a minimum 12 pt Times New Roman font
  • Your name appearing within the set margins at the top right corner of every page

Project proposal and program of study

Describe your program of study in clear, plain language. Avoid jargon, acronyms and highly technical terms.
Ensure that your text includes the following elements, especially with respect to your proposal:

  • Clearly state your current level of graduate study;
  • Indicate what stage you are at in your thesis / proposal / performance / composition project;
  • Provide the name of your supervisor of doctoral studies, if applicable;
  • Provide an outline of your thesis / proposal / performance / composition project, including, for example, the guiding research or artistic idea, context, objectives, methodology and potential outcomes contribution to the advancement of knowledge or your professional discipline (value to others);
  • Describe what you hope to accomplish during the award tenure and what will remain to be done before you obtain your degree.

Depending on the type of research, you can model your proposal after NSERC, SSHRC or Research-Creation Grants

Bibliography

Provide a bibliography that includes citations for all works referenced in the research proposal. Ensure that all citations are clear and complete to allow reviewers to easily locate the sources.
