Biography: 

Newfoundland-born Kate Bevan-Baker is a recognized fiddler, violinist and singer with extensive professional recording and performance experience. She has been playing violin since the age of four and thrives on a variety of musical styles from Celtic to jazz and classical. Kate holds violin performance degrees from Memorial and McGill Universities, a Graduate Certificate in University Teaching, and a PhD in ethnomusicology specializing in Irish Music on PEI from Concordia University where she was a Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council Doctoral Scholar. Her academic research has been presented at international conferences and festivals across Canada and Ireland. Kate’s performance career has taken her across Canada, Europe, Russia and China, and she has toured with many ensembles and orchestras. Kate has been featured on many nation-wide radio and television broadcasts, and can be heard on over thirty albums, video game and movie soundtracks. She was a founding member of the Newfoundland-based ECMA-nominated traditional band, The Dardanelles, and currently plays fiddle and sings in the Montreal-based Celtic/folk ensembles, Solstice, Bùmarang, and Archetype Trad. Kate currently lives in Montreal where she balances an active performance and teaching schedule.
