Professor Peter Schubert and his award winning ensemble VivaVoce have released a new CD- Scenes from the Gospels: Motets from Josquin to Palestrina

The disc features  Renaissance motets based on texts from the Gospels. These pieces  were composed between 1500 and 1564 by the "lost generation" of composers - Willaert, Jachet, Manchicourt and Gombert, and depict various events in the life of Jesus, from birth to crucifixion. VivaVoce was founded in Montreal in 1998 by Peter Schubert.

Well-known to audiences across Canada as a soloist, chamber musician and recording artist, Stéphane Lemelin is equally reputed as a skilled university administrator, most recently as the Director of the School of Music at the University of Ottawa. He is also a dedicated pedagogue who has been teaching at university-level for 28 years and has given masterclasses around the world.

Violinist Victor Fournelle-Blain wins the string category of the McGill Concerto Competition

Violinist Victor Fournelle-Blain is the strings category  winner of the 2014 McGillConcerto Competition.  On Sunday, Victor performed  his winning rendition of the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto, Op. 64 and will perform with the McGill Symphony Orchestra in the 2014-2015 season. The award comes with the recently established Mary Feher Prize, a substantial cash award given for the first time this competition.

Zihua Tan (student of John Rea - DMus program) wins composition prize in Thailand

Mahidol University's College of Music (Bangkok), in collaboration with Goethe-Institut (Thailand), recently hosted the "Young Composers in Southeast Asia Competition & Festival 2013". The event invited composers from Southeast Asia to present their compositions. Ten composers were selected by international jury members to attend a workshop to present their credentials and discuss on their outstanding pieces.

Faculty and Grads of Schulich nominated for the 56th Annual Grammy Awards

This year three members of the Schulich family are up for Grammy awards: recent graduates Esteli Gomez, and Brian Losch, as well as Prof. Matt Haimovitz.  While at Schulich, soprano Esteli Gomez studied with Prof. Sanford Sylvan.

Schulich Jazz students and professor share their music with residents of Lac Mégantic

It goes without saying that following the tragic disaster of July 6, 2013, residents of Lac Mégantic need all the support that can be provided to them, and  times of tragedy, music can be a tremendous comfort. It was in this spirit that Robert Roy, organizer of cultural events in Lac Mégantic, asked Rémi Bolduc, saxophonist and professor at McGill University , to take part in a weekend of concerts for residents with the aim of offering a moment of serenity to all who would attend.
