Alain Desgagne has been a Professional Clarinetist for more than 25 years. He started his career in the Victoria Symphony as second clarinet, then moved on to become the Solo Clarinet of the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra and is now, since 2001, Associate Principal Clarinet of the Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal under the Direction of Kent Nagano.  Throughout the years, he has been an active soloist and Chamber Musician (notably with the Manitoba Chamber Orchestra, the WSO and the group Kiosque à Musique)

Mr. Desgagne is Assistant Professor of Clarinet at the Schulich School of Music at McGill University and has been teaching and performing at several prestigious Music Festivals such as: Marrowstone Music Festival in Washington State, National Youth Orchestra of Canada, Prisma in British Columbia. In 2010, he was a guest lecturer at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas.

He has been a guest solo clarinetist with many orchestras such as the Seattle International Music Festival, I Musici and the National Orchestra of Italy in Martina Franca.

Mr. Desgagne had the privilege of serving on the Board of the OSM and Maison Kekpart, a youth organisation in the south shore of Montreal.

 


 

Le clarinettiste Alain Desgagné est un natif de Jonquière, maintenant Ville Saguenay.  Il a débuté ses études musicales au Conservatoire de Musique de Chicoutimi en 1977 sous la direction de M. John Van Bockern. Après y avoir obtenu un Premier Prix en interpétation, il a poursuivi des études supérieures à la "Northwestern University" sous la tutelle de Robert Marcellus. Il y a obtenu une Maîtrise ainsi qu'un Certificat en Interprétation et il a été admis dans la société honorifique "Pi Kappa Lambda". Sa carrière orchestrale a débuté avec le "Victoria Symphony" en 1989.  Il a par la suite été nommé clarinette solo du "Winnipeg Symphony" en 1997 pour finalement revenir au Québec en 2001 et occuper son poste actuel de Clarinette Solo Associé au sein de l'OSM.

Depuis 2002, M. Desgagné est professeur de clarinette au "Schulich School of Music" de l'Université McGill et est aussi Artiste invité depuis plus de 15 ans dans plusieurs Festivals de Musique au Canada et aux États Unis, tels que le "Marrowstone Music Festival" dans l'État de Washington et Prisma à Powell River en Colombie Britannique. Depuis l’été 2010, M. Desgagné est membre de la Faculté de l’Orchestre National des Jeunes du Canada. Il a aussi été le clarinette solo de l'Orchestre National d'Italie à Martina Franca pendant l'été 2006. On a pu l'entendre fréquemment sur les ondes de Radio Canada comme soliste et chambriste, notamment avec le groupe Kiosque, ainsi que sur plusieurs bandes sonores de films et documentaires.

Il a été membre du comité des Musiciens de l’OSM ainsi que membre du CA. Il a aussi été membre du CA de la Maison Kekpart, un organisme venant en aide aux jeunes de Longueuil,  de 2012 à 2015.
