Programming Changes

In light of the novel COVID-19 virus, there are exceptional closures and cancellations.

Keeping in touch with faith and spirituality is essential during these times of crisis. Please find below a list of programming changes and alternatives in Montreal, sorted by faith designation.

Newman Centre of McGill University

  • The Newman Centre will resume Sunday Masses at 3484 Peel on Sunday, August 23, at 11:00 AM and 5 PM. Online registration is mandatory to ensure everyone's safety. As they further resume their ministry, and people are invited to remain updated via their Facebook page
  • Students can contact Father Joachim at chaplain [at] newmancentre.org for more information about Mass and other sacramental ministry.

McGill Ecumenical (Protestant)

  • Wednesdays & Sundays 6:00 PM: Young Adult Check-In and Prayer Time online.
  • Wednesdays 6:30 PM: Young Adult Liturgy Lessons and Discussion online.
  • Thursdays 6:30 PM: Sanctuary - A Time of Prayer and Conversation online.
  • Jean-Daniel is available for pastoral care and accessible via video chat. You can jeandaniel.odonncada [at] montrealcathedral.ca (email) him to arrange a conference time.

The Presbyterian College of Montreal

The United Theological College of Montreal

  • All public events and in-person classes are cancelled. These events will hopefully be rescheduled in the coming weeks.
  • The College continues to follow strict protocols for small group gatherings.

Montreal Dio

  • Praying the Daily Office via Facebook Live. No Facebook account is necessary to participate, simply go to www.facebook.com/montrealdio.
    • 9:00 AM: Morning Prayer
    • 12:30 PM: Mid-day Prayer
    • 5:00 PM: Evening Prayer
    • 9:30 PM: Compline

The Church of St. Andrew & St. Paul (Presbyterian)

  • All in-person church services and on-site programming are suspended until March 31st.
  • The Church of St. Andrew & St. Paul is broadcasting church services via their YouTube channel.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Canada

  • Church services worldwide have been suspended along with any other related gatherings until further notice.
  • The Temple will be closed from Friday, March 13th until further notice.
  • Where possible, living sealings and associated living ordinances will continue to be performed. As long as the Temple remains open for living ordinances, names may be submitted for the prayer roll.
  • People are moving to home-centred religious worship.
  • The Annual General Broadcast (biannual meeting of all church members) will happen via internet. It will be the largest virtual meeting ever held by the church.

Temple Emanu-El-Beth Sholom

  • All Temple activities are suspended as per Quebec government measures.
  • Shabbat services (Friday evenings at 7:45pm and Saturday mornings at 10:15am) will be available by live-stream only; this page will connect you to the services and give you access to the prayer book.
  • Check out their website for updates on various opportunities to learn remotely.
  • The office will remain open in a very limited capacity while most of the professional team works remotely.
  • Rabbis will be available for meetings and pastoral support by phone, and there is a team of volunteers calling Temple members to check-in and offer help. Hillel Montreal

  • The Hillel House will be closed and all physical events and meetings will be cancelled until after Passover (through to April 17th).
  • Hillel will still be going forth with programs adapted online, which will include, but not limited to, ad-hoc services, programs centred around Jewish learning, any Jewish holiday celebrations, wellness events, and more.
  • As of March 17th, staff can still meet with students in-person, at a location of their choice.

Chabad at McGill

  • Chabad at McGill will be operating on a hybrid system for Shabbat dinners. Please add your name to our Shabbat Rotation List if you are interested in attending in-person Shabbat. We will contact you on the weeks you will be able to come to the Chabad house for Shabbat. Working on a rotation basis allows the greatest amount of people to come to Shabbat, while also strictly adhering to social distancing guidelines.
  • In order to keep everyone safe, every event at Chabad this semester will be by RESERVATION ONLY. Starting with Shabbat on August 28th, which will be to go with an outdoor Kabbalat Shabbat at Chabad - Friday at 7:45 and Morning services at 10:30 am. Sign-up here.

McGill Sikh Students' Association

  • All in-person events and services have been cancelled until further notice.
  • There will be a weekly online meeting available (more information to come).

Sikhism in Montreal

  • Langars have been suspended at the local gurduwaras, along with all other services.
  • Once proper hygienic systems have been put into place, meals will be prepared and disseminated.
  • Our Sikh liaison, Dr. Juss Kaur, is holding weekly webinars (every Sunday from 4-6pm) with Sikh Youth:
    • 4pm - 4:20pm: Waheguru mantra simran (meditation). A tape is played and everyone is asked to participate.
    • 4:20pm - 4:30pm: Silent meditation.
    • 4:30pm - 5:00pm: Discourse on different topics, such as "Taking Refuge in God," "Power of Thoughts," and "Spiritual Power."
    • 5:00pm - 6:00pm: Discussion, questions and answers.
    • Everyone is invited and all sessions are held in English (except for the chanting).

Islamic Society of North America

Sanad Collective (Muslim)

  • All in-person events and services have been cancelled until further notice.
  • There are daily live streams on their Facebook page.

Muslim Students' Association McGill

  • All in-person events are suspended until further notice.

Unitarian Church of Montreal / General Unitarian Universalist resources

  • Staff have made recordings and videos available for several worship services on their website along with links to Facebook, YouTube, and the UCM website.
  • There are plans to offer pastoral care, Exploration Groups and other fellowships, RE activities, committee meetings, and other regular church matters through online platforms.
  • The Church of the Larger Fellowship offers weekly interactive services, small group ministry (Exploration Groups), support groups, talk shows, and other material online.
  • Young adults can join bi-weekly online check-ins via Zoom.
  • You can consult the Canadian Unitarian Council as a crucial resource as they coordinate and support all Canadian congregations.

Holy Grail Parish - Apostolic Johannite Church of Montreal

  • All meetings will be delayed until April.
