Call for Student Applications: Movement Chaplaincy Training

Thursday, December 16, 2021toWednesday, January 12, 2022

MORSL recognizes and values that there is a great deal of spiritual work that happens in social justice movements among students on campus as well as in their personal lives. In order to continue to work toward needed changes in the world, individuals and groups actively involved in social change have unique needs for spiritual re-centering, the renewal of hope, and spiritual connection. Because we value the spiritual well-being of our students, and are invested in them building spiritual strength and resiliency, we are offering this opportunity for McGill students to become trained in movement chaplaincy so that they can support and share spiritual care skills with other McGill students involved in important social movement activism.

Daring Compassion Movement Chaplaincy Training

Daring Compassion Movement Chaplaincy Training is an online program offered by the Faith Matters Network. Participants from diverse locations will have weekly readings and will post in online forums (self paced within the week), as well as three video conferences (dates TBD) over the course of twelve weeks, from February 1 to April 25, 2022. This course is designed to teach individuals to provide quality spiritual care to people involved in social movements in order to prevent burnout and mental and spiritual depletion, and to move forward causes of liberation, justice, equity, and peace throughout the world. Participants will develop and enhance their spiritual practice and resiliency skills during the course, and will complete a final project as part of the course. See the details of the course outline to learn more about the content and flow of the training.

The MORSL Cohort

MORSL is preparing to sponsor a cohort of students to participate in the Daring Compassion Movement Chaplaincy Training winter semester 2022. The registration deadline for this session of the training is January 18, 2022, so we need to form our McGill cohort rapidly! Participants in the MORSL cohort will meet monthly to connect with fellow McGill student participants and share their chaplaincy training experiences. MORSL will organize opportunities for participants to share their final projects with the McGill community. All students are encouraged to apply. MORSL will prioritize applications from returning student applicants, as well as applicants who anticipate opportunities to apply their chaplaincy training skills to opportunities in their activities at McGill in the next 12 to 24 months after training. Participating students will gain valuable spiritual care tools and skills and knowledge to further the work of social justice movements.

The selected student participants will benefit from:

  1. Full coverage of training fees ($225 USD), reimbursable upon completion of program.
  2. Recognition on the student Co-curricular Record (CCR) through myInvolvement.
  3. Presenting their final project during a campus opportunity hosted by MORSL, such as an event or publication in Radix Magazine.

To be eligible to join this cohort, you must fulfil all of the following criteria:

  1. Be a McGill University student registered for the winter 2022 semester.
  2. Attend a mandatory pre-training session on January 17th from 5:30-6:30 PM on zoom.
  3. Attend and meet all the requirements of the training course.
