Eakin Lecture: Reading Canada in American Juvenile Fiction, 1890-1940 by Professor Andrew Holman
24 November 2011

This year’s Fall William R. Eakin Lecture in Canadian Studies was delivered by Professor Andrew Holman, Fall 2011 Eakin Fellow at MISC. Professor Holman's lecture, Reading Canada in American Juvenile Fiction, 1890-1940, uncovered Canada's image and presence abroad as it was articulated in an unlikely source: juvenile series books and pulp magazine fiction published in the United States from the 1890s until World War II. Holman examined the place of Canada and Canadians in the American imaginary as it was expressed in this prodigious fiction.

Over a dozen guests attended the fascinating talk, which was followed by a thought-provoking question/answer period and a lovely wine and refreshments reception in the MISC Reading Room.
