Book Launch: "The Problem of Hockey in Quebec History", presented by Professor Andrew Holman (Bridgewater State University)

Currie Gymnasium Room 304, 475 avenue des Pins Ouest, Montreal, QC, H2W 1S4, CA

Hockey has long been a popular pastime and a national obsession in Quebec, revealing much about Quebec and its relationship with the rest of Canada. In this book talk, Canadian sport historian Andrew Holman examines how deeply this sport, born in Montreal in 1875, has been embedded in and shaped by the politics of identity and national affirmation in Quebec.

In The Same But Different, published by McGill-University Queen's Press (MQUP), writers from inside and outside Quebec assess the game’s history and culture in the province from the nineteenth century to the present. To read more about this book, please see this MQUP webpage.

Andrew Holman is a history professor and director of the Canadian Studies Program at the Bridgewater State University.

This event is free and open to the public but RSVPs misc.iecm [at] (by e-mail) are encouraged.
