The renewal was marked by a discussion between MI4 Director Dr. Marcel Behr and HZI leaders Dr. Josef Penninger, Scientific Director and Head of Department, Innovative Organoid Research, and Dr. Luka Cicin-Sain, Head of the Viral Immunology Research Group. Together, they explored emerging opportunities for collaboration and reflected on how both institutions can continue to respond to a rapidly evolving global health landscape.
The renewed agreement strengthens a longstanding relationship and provides a framework for a broad range of collaborative activities, including faculty and staff exchanges, joint research initiatives and publications, participation in seminars and academic meetings, specialized academic programs, and research visits for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. The partnership also supports opportunities for undergraduate student exchanges, as well as the sharing of scientific materials, knowledge, and resources through appropriate institutional agreements.
By fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and international exchange, MI4 and HZI are well positioned to accelerate scientific discovery and train the next generation of researchers working to address some of the world's most pressing challenges in infection and immunity.
