We were very pleased to have Dr. Gerry Wright joining us as our keynote speaker: a leading authority on bacterial and fungal antimicrobial resistance, and the Director of the Michael G. DeGroote Institute for Infectious Disease Research at McMaster University. Dr. Wright’s keynote address was titled: “Antibiotics in Crisis: How did we get here and what can we do about it?”
Dr. Gerry Wright is a leading authority on bacterial and fungal antimicrobial resistance, and the Director of the Michael G. DeGroote Institute for Infectious Disease Research at McMaster University. He is a Professor at McMaster University in the Department of Biochemistry and Biomedical Sciences, an Associate member in the Departments of Chemistry and Chemical Biology and of Pathology and Molecular Medicine. He holds the Michael G. DeGroote Chair in Infection and Anti-Infective Research and a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Antibiotic Biochemistry. Dr. Wright has also served on grant panel advisory boards and Chaired grant panels for a number of funding agencies in Canada, the US, and Europe and consults widely for the pharmaceutical and biotech sectors.
The event included short presentations from the winners of the MI4 Seed Fund Grant competition, short presentations on the MI4 Microbiome Research Platform and MI4 Clinical Trials Platform, student and platform poster sessions, information on MI4 programs and platforms and more.
