MFORUM Conference 2019-2020

Conference 2019

March 12, 2020

Dear All,

Thank you to everyone who contacted us about the status of the MFORUM conference scheduled for next week. In short, we are committed to your health and safety and have decided to postpone the conference to a later date (TBD), likely in the fall.

Like you, we have been concerned about COVID-19. We have been monitoring the available information and have been in conversation with the University leadership about our options given the seriousness of the situation.

We are in the process of reversing all MMP transactions, effectively cancelling all registrations. We will provide registrants with more information once we receive an update about the process.

In terms of rescheduling, our intention is to find a date that works for our presenters, and provide ‘Building the “M” in Momentum at McGill: a Practical Guide’ at that time. We will let you know of the new date, and open registration then.

For further information on the University’s response to this situation, we encourage you to refer to consult the University’s Coronavirus webpage.

We are disappointed that we will not see you next week, but we are more committed to ensuring that all of us are healthy and safe.

Be well, and stay healthy!

Speaker: Suzana Kafadar de Rodriguez, Director, Administration & Finance, Faculty of Dentistry

Description: In this session, Suzana will present a career planning tool to you which she came across in one of her HR courses during her Management studies at McGill. Working through this career and development planning template turned out to be an insightful and inspiring exercise, and very relevant for performance dialogue, developing a CV, preparing for interviews, and developing a concrete action plan for the next career move. In the different sections of this exercise, we will look at personal vision, mission and values, various psychometric assessment tools, a new way of presenting your job history, your present situation and future career options, a development of your personal career timeline, and a concrete action plan to take you to the next step.

Suzana Kafadar de Rodriguez received her undergraduate degree in Conference Interpreting from Heidelberg University in Germany in 1997. She lived and worked in Germany, the United Kingdom and Venezuela in different administrative roles as well as a freelance translator and interpreter prior to moving to Canada in 2007. In May 2007, Suzana joined McGill in the Office of the Associate Provost (Budget and Planning). Following a brief turn as Office Manager at Revay & Associates Ltd., she rejoined McGill as a Relocation Administrator in the Academic Personnel Office, then in Human Resources, a position she held between 2007 and 2011.

During her years at HR, she pursued further training at McGill’s School of Continuing Studies and obtained a graduate diploma in Management with a concentration in Human Resources in 2013. As of January 2012, Suzana spent three years working as the Assistant to the Senior Director and Office Manager of Human Resources before joining the Faculty of Medicine as a Financial Officer for one of the Administrative Excellence Centres (AEC 2) in December 2014. She was named Interim Associate Director of the same AEC in 2016 and was officially confirmed in her role in 2017. SESSION D: The Art & Science of Intentional Leadership

Speaker: Melissa Neverson, Special Projects Consultant, Licensed Facilitator of Danielle LaPorte’s Desire Map

Description: The key to leadership is not in what we do, but in who we are. True (and brilliant) leadership, in both your professional & personal life, has nothing to do with how many people you manage – it’s about knowing who you are, how you want to show up in the world, and why you want what you want. When you can stand up, authentically and with integrity, for your vision, you inspire yourself and those around you to do the same, which in turn makes for more effective leaders within the organization. Danielle LaPorte’s Desire Mapping framework is a heart-centered approach to creating our lives with mindful intention. We can’t control all circumstances, but we get to choose how we feel about everything. This interactive session will help you explore the balance between your head and your heart, the process of choice and how you can develop a greater sense of clarity and purpose in your work.

In this workshop you will:

  • Explore concepts of head vs. heart and how it impacts how we make choices
  • Learn how to pause and check in with your values system before making decisions
  • Identify one (or two) core motivations that are driving your desires as a leader – your personal why
  • Distinguish how you want to feel – when you show up to work, during conversations with your team, colleagues and clients – and check that your goals are in true alignment
  • Discover how to use the Desire Map framework within group settings to create more intentional goals and aligned team objectives

Melissa Neverson is a Licensed Facilitator of Danielle LaPorte’s Desire Map program and holds a Bachelors in Human Relations. At heart, she is a change-agent whose forte is motivation and values-based self-leadership.

She is also a Special Projects Consultant who leads and mentors teams of freelance professionals. She is deeply passionate about helping others tap into their strengths and their core motivations and uses these skills to help others start and grow successful freelance careers.

Melissa, once an employee of Organizational Development, fell in love with the art of training and facilitation having led several training workshops including Managing Your Career and the first-ever Desire Map lunch and learn session.
