SACE Lunch and Learn Series: Enhancing Equity, Diversity and Inclusion in our Practice as Teachers, Researchers and Administrators

Session Descriptions: In this monthly lunch and learn virtual series, we ask participants to submit their challenges related to equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) as either teachers, researchers (including graduate supervision) or administrators. From the cases/questions submitted, the organizing committee will choose one or two cases for discussion in the lunch and learn sessions, with wrap-up and key points for each. The sessions will be interactive and will draw on participants’ experiences and expertise in addition to that of the facilitator(s). EDI key points resources, best practices, and relevant literature will be posted on the Social Accountability and Community Engagement (SACE) website for reference. Note that we cannot commit to bringing all cases/questions to discussion but will do our best to have a representative example of issues encountered throughout the monthly series.

Guidelines for case submission:

  • Any aspect of academic life in which issues of equity, diversity and inclusion might be encountered are eligible. This can include what you teach in the classroom, the learning and work environment or the policies that we navigate as members of the faculty. The list is not exhaustive and there may be other areas in which EDI issues are encountered. All questions/cases are welcome!
  • We ask that you write up the case or EDI question in approximately 5-6 sentences, indicating your specific questions or concerns.
  • Because the case might be discussed in the larger group , please ensure that cases are anonymized for non-identifiability.

Note that only cases/questions submitted at least 1 week beforehand can be considered for discussion, in order to allow time for session planning.
