Led by Dr. James Torczyner of McGill’s School of Social Work, with a team of researchers from different disciplines, the study will be released at a day-long event open to the public (simultaneous translation will be available). The presentation of core findings and emerging issues will be held between 10:00 am and 11:30 am. Between 1:15 and 3:00, there will be three different presentations of research information related to faith-based institutions and immigration; the criminal justice system; employment and education.
Funded by the Multiculturalism Program of Citizenship and Immigration Canada, the study examines data collected from the 2006 Census and provides a detailed statistical portrait of the Black community in terms of demographic make-up (gender, age, language, income level, residential patterns, etc.) and their employment, housing, youth, justice, immigration and educational conditions. The study is a follow-up study carried released in 1998 and discusses community evolution between 1998 and 2008.
Dr. Torczyner and other researchers will be available for media interviews during the lunch period.
