INQ Northern Days
L'Institut nordique du Québec (INQ) is pleased to launch its call for sessions, papers and posters for the fourth edition of Northern Days. This year's event will be held at the Musée de la civilisation in Québec City from May 19 to 21, 2020 with the theme of sustainable development of northern communities. Deadline for abstract submission is February 2, 2020.
INQ invites eligible students to apply to participate in the regional finals of the My Northern Project science outreach competition. New this year: the competition is now open to Master's students who have analyzed their field data. The competition also remains open to PhD students. Of course, only research projects with a northern or Arctic theme are eligible. Deadline for application submission is April 26, 2020.

4th Annual McGill Northern Research Day; Highlighting Early Career Researchers Leadership

This year’s event will focus on early career researchers and their leadership in redefining how northern research is conceived, conducted, and communicated. Presentations will highlight new research results generated by early career researchers as well as the training, research, and community engagement initiatives and innovations they are introducing that advance, challenge, or reject conventional approaches to northern research.

Registration is now open for the 16th Annual Colloquium of the Centre interuniversitaire d’études et de recherches autochtones (CIÉRA).
Two main topics will guide the discussions during this 2-day event : 1) Reconciliation in action : issues and possible solutions, 2) Critical issues and perspectives on Reconciliation. The first day of the event will end with an artistic evening where musicians and Aboriginal artists will be honored. Innu singer Kathia Rock will take the lead!

On the first day, you can attend the second edition of Mon projet nordique and witness the vitality and passion that motivate our young researchers! The second day will focus on contributions and challenges of interdisciplinary exchanges between researchers working in diverse fields, members of Aboriginal communities and community partners to address the complex issues of the North.

Following a long history of efforts by communities, organizations and interested parties in the greater James Bay/Hudson Bay region towards sharing knowledge and coordinated environmental stewardship, the inaugural Hudson Bay Summit will bring together these groups to formally create the Hudson Bay Consortium and move forward on activities and outcomes for environmental stewardship including Communications, Protected Areas, Coastal Restoration and Environmental Monitoring.
The Summit buildt on momentum by a recently established East Hudson Bay/James Bay Regional Roundtable and ongoing successes of the Western Hudson Bay Roundtable, and brought these groups together to consider the Hudson Bay/James Bay region as a whole.

Building on the success of its previous Annual Scientific Meetings (video), the ArcticNet Network of Centres of Excellence and its national and international partners invite the international Arctic research community to the International Arctic Change 2017 Conference. Arctic Change 2017 will bring together leading Arctic researchers, graduate students, Northern community representatives, government and industry partners and stakeholders from all fields. During the week, the world’s foremost Arctic scientists will discuss the emerging global challenges and opportunities arising from climate change and modernization in the circum-Arctic. With over 1500 participants expected to attend, Arctic Change 2017 will be one of the largest trans-sectoral international Arctic research conferences ever held in Canada.

The overall mission of this workshop was to foster cooperation and balance between scientific and indigenous local knowledge, and to promote the sharing of perspectives between the scientific and northern communities. This event included two full-day workshops and a keynote speaker, a round table discussion, and a networking session around these themes:
- Raising awareness of indigenous realities using storytelling, music and visuals
- Creative, arts-based experiential workshop
- Respectful research: different cultural practices and perspectives on research
- Participatory and positive engagement in research
- Scientific communication in indigenous communities
- Foster partnership between indigenous local knowledge and scientific knowledge

McGill North Forum
When: May 1st, 2017

This event featured presentations by 19 of McGill’s northern researchers representing four faculties (Agricultural and Environmental Science, Dentistry, Medicine, Science) and seven departments/units (Bioresource Engineering, Geography, Earth and Planetary Science, Family Medicine, Medicine, Natural Resource Sciences, Dietetics and Human Nutrition) and was attended by McGill researchers representing three additional faculties (Arts, Education, Engineering).
