Master of Public Policy

Johns Hopkins SAIS and Max Bell School's cooperative degree program

Two years, two degrees

The Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) and McGill University’s Max Bell School of Public Policy have partnered in a cooperative degree program. This two-year program will enable students to earn a Master of Arts in International Affairs at SAIS Europe, the School’s European campus located in Bologna, Italy, and a Master of Public Policy from McGill University, Montreal. Students in this two-year program spend one year at each campus and can begin their studies in either Bologna or Montreal.

The SAIS Europe-Max Bell School partnership is an excellent opportunity for students interested in a multidisciplinary, tool-based graduate education in international affairs. Max Bell School MPP students will benefit from SAIS Europe’s focus on economics and international relations while studying in Bologna, Italy – an accessible gateway to Europe, North Africa and the Middle East, with all its accompanying social and political vitality.

SAIS Europe’s students will have the opportunity to experience the Max Bell School’s integrated approach to public policy, with policy case studies, complexity seminars, and the School's flagship Policy Lab, while enjoying Montreal – one of the top student destinations in the world with its eclectic blend of North American and European culture.

Benjamin Dooley, MPP '21

"The MPP-MAIA program gave me the complete package I was looking for in a graduate program - a solid foundation in policy and exposure to a network of professors and practitioners working at the forefront of the most pressing issues facing the world. I count myself fortunate to have met and befriended a host of accomplished and dedicated individuals from across Canada and around the world."

Hayley Krieger, MPP '23

"The MAIA-MPP combined my interests in both international relations and public policy. I want to better address the complexity of international conflict through policy-based solutions in my career, and this joint program gave me opportunities to do so."
