Court case against the end of life legislation in Quebec | CBC Montreal
February 6, 2024 | The Catholic Church legally challenges Quebec's assisted dying law, arguing the province's end of life legislation violates its religious freedom. The church feels it is forced to choose between a procedure it finds morally unacceptable or abandon its pallative care center in Montreal. Prof. Pearl Eliadis says that this is a case of religious freedom vs. secularism, and that Quebec's Human Rights Legislation makes secularism more important than any other right.
"It's going to be interesting to see whether the courts recognize this role of secularism in order to give the patients rights more importance than the rights of the religious institution."
