 m under Riemannian submersions. In the first part of the talk\, we will sh
 ow that if the submersion has closed fibers of bounded mean curvature\, th
 en the base manifold has discrete spectrum if and only if so does the tota
 l space. In the second part\, we will consider submersions arising from ac
 tions of Lie groups and investigate how the behavior of the spectrum is in
