 s\n\nAbstract: It is a wellknown result of M. Sato that all Schur function
 s are solutions of the KP hierarchy and that a general solution can be exp
 ressed  as a possibly infinite linear combination of these Schur functions
 . However\, not all linear combinations are solutions of this KP hierarchy
 . In this talk I will address the topic of polynomial solutions of various
  hierarchies. In particular\, I will give a simple formula that describes 
 all polynomial solutions for both the KP and Gelfand-Dickey hierarchies.
