DESCRIPTION:CRM-McGill applied math seminars\n	(Joint with the DMO seminars)
\n\nTitle: Polar duality in three liftings.\n\nAbstract: Many modern appli
cations rely on convex optimization\, which offers a rich modeling paradig
m as well as strong theoretical guarantees and computational advantages. C
onvex duality often plays a central role. I will describe the geometry beh
ind a simple form of convex duality based on polarity of convex cones\, it
s relationship to lifting\, and show how it leads to a computationally eff
icient algorithm for the phase-retrieval problem in X-ray crystallography.
