Sunday Olakanmi

Biography: 

Sunday Olakanmi is a Mastercard Foundation Scholar (MCF) Alumnus. He completed his master’s degree in Bioresource Engineering (with a major in Integrated Food and Bioprocessing) at McGill University in Fall 2019. He has a training on Advanced Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) with Alchemy Academy in July 2020. He is currently enrolled in the course Project Management: Practice and Certification with the School of Continuing Studies, McGill University. Additionally, he was the student leader of the Food Engineering Department at LAUTECH, his alma mater for 4 years.

Within the last few years, he has worked in diverse areas, both in Canada and on the African Continent. He was one of the winners of Hello Mushroom - Internship Challenge- 2020 (Anisha) with Africa Careers Network (ACN) in Uganda. Here in Canada, He worked as a Quality Assurance Specialist with AK-PAK RICCI, Montreal.

He is also a curious researcher. He was a Visiting Researcher to the Food Research Lab, Dept. of Biological Eng. University of Guelph – Guelph, Canada in the Summer of 2019. While in his country, Nigeria, He was a graduate teaching assistant at the Department of Food Science and Engineering, Enugu State University of Science and Technology, Nigeria between the year 2015 and 2016.

He is currently working with Pneuma Food Scientifics (PFS) Ghana to develop and implement HACCP and Preventive Control Plans in accordance with the GFSI (SQF) regulatory standards. PFS is based in Ghana and supplies her products majorly to the people within the country.

Sunday is a bibliophile and is always interested in further studies in the areas of food safety, quality and project management. He is interested to explore the applications of some novel tools for quality assessment of some agricultural products. In the near future, he would like to work with international organizations on global food safety and quality issues.

Through his career journey, he has overcome numerous challenges which make him acquire different skills like project management, leadership, problem-solving and decision-making. Sunday is passionate about global food security, safety, quality and sustainability.
