Advisory Council – Terms of Reference

MISSION
To provide insight, guidance and support to McGill University’s Food Safety & Quality Program.

COLLABORATORS
Members of the Council will work closely with the Faculty’s Dean, the Ian & Jayne Munro Chair in Food Safety, academics and other members of the Faculty.

COUNCIL MEMBERS & VALUE STATEMENT
The Council will consist of between 8 – 12 members, and will have roles relevant to the Program within Industry, Academic, Government & other groups with a focus on Food Safety.

Council members will have the opportunity to exchange with the Faculty, gaining insight into the research, technologies, and best practices around Food Safety & Quality. They will also have direct access to the talent being developed on Campus, while at the same time providing insight as to the gaps in the talent pool, allowing the Program to be agile in addressing needs.

DESCRIPTION OF ROLE
Members of the Council will:

  • be appointed to 3-year, renewable terms.
  • be requested to attend one Council meeting/year, set for the spring of each year.
  • be asked to provide their insight into the industry landscape.
  • provide feedback on current & future program objectives
  • support in the promotion of the program
  • be asked, when available, to be guest speakers or contributors
  • work with the Internship & Career Services offices to help the Faculty in preparing students for post-graduation

ADVISORY COUNCIL PROMOTION
It is understood that the support and commitment of external partners is critical to the success of the Program, and its ability to positively address this critical issue with the greatest impact. As such, the Advisory Council membership will be included on the Food Safety & Quality Program website.
