DESCRIPTION:Lister Science Chats...Live from McGill's Macdonald Campus to y
our home!\n\nEars That See: Acoustic Imaging for Food Quality Evaluation\n
\nJACOB TIZHE LIBERTY\,\n	PhD Candidate (Food and Bioprocess Engineering)\,
Department of Bioresource Engineering\,\n\nIf food wastage were a country
\, it would be the third-largest CO2 emitting one in the world. Effective
control is difficult because food attributes\, such as quality and ripenes
s\, can only be done traditionally by subjective analysis. Jacob’s researc
h is aimed at developing an objective synchronous acoustic-mechanical tech
nique for assessing food. The findings from his investigation are expected
to be useful in reducing the carbon footprint from food waste by predicti
ng the shelf-life of fruits and vegetables.\n\nLEARN ABOUT:\n	Sound waves\,
acoustic imaging\, food security & how a ripe watermelon sounds!\n\nSuppo
rted by the Lister Family Engaged Science Initiative\, the Lister Science
Chats connects students currently at home through live science talks with
researchers from McGill's Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Scienc
es. Each chat features a Macdonald Campus graduate student giving an engag
ing 30-minute English presentation on their research\, followed by a 15-mi
nute question period. Although the targeted levels for these science chats
are Secondary 4 & Secondary 5\, anyone with a passion for science is welc
ome to join.\n\nThe live chat will take place on ZOOM. No advance registra
tion required. To attend the talk\, please visit https://www.mcgill.ca/osa
s/cpd/listerengagedscience. A link will be made available shortly before t
he live event. You will just need to click on the link to participate.\n\n
