DESCRIPTION: \n\nPhD Oral Defense of Ahmad Suhaizi Mat Su\, Department of B
ioresource Engineering\n\nSustainable agriculture involves optimizing yiel
d and profitability without compromising the environment. Requiring high c
hemical inputs which accelerate soil systems’ biological activity\, intens
ive agricultural production results in the emission of greenhouse gases (G
 HG\; e.g.\, CO2\, CH4\, and N2O)\, important drivers of climate change. Qu
antifying emissions from agricultural soils is critical to assessing the s
ustainability of farming practices. Ignoring field heterogeneity\, past es
timates of agriculture-driven GHG emissions simply extrapolated totals fro
m a small number of sampling sites. Inherent differences in soil climatic
and physical properties and crop management activities can significantly a
ffect an agricultural field’s spatial (transverse and depth-wise) and temp
oral patterns of GHG emissions.\n\nEveryone in the McGill community is wel
come to attend a PhD oral defense. Please join us in celebrating the accom
 plishments of our PhD candidates.\n
